Improving Soils

It’s difficult to pick up any farming press at the moment without coming across an article that emphasises the importance of prioritising the health of your soil.

Here at Murray of Redden we supply and spread an array of products including Poultry Manure, Compost, Farm Yard Manure and Gypsum, all of which have been proven to increase organic matter levels and in turn improve soil health. Having applied Poultry Manure to our light gravel land by the River Tweed, crop yields have improved by over 30% since 2006 and our resilience to extreme weather conditions have improved considerably.

Certified organic Poultry Manure suitable for organic farms can also be supplied along with all the necessary paperwork.

Orders can be tailored to customer’s requirements. Products can be mixed together to produce a product with high levels of dry matter which is of a better consistency for storage and spreading.

We also supply and spread lime which is used to correct soil pH. Correct soil pH levels should be used as the foundation of your soils health as there is a positive correlation between a neutral pH and percentage nutrient uptake.

Gypsum can be used as a soil conditioner or as a great source of sulphur and calcium for the duration of the growing season. A great way to improve soil structure and help make it more friable as well increasing sulphur levels which helps improve plant condition and growth rates.
